Testosterone Medications Information

With testosterone therapy, a patient can chose between two methods of administering the medication:

1. Gels

Gels are available for those who would like a second option to administering testosterone.  As opposed to injecting the testosterone a person can administer testosterone by rubbing specific amounts of gel (as directed by your doctor) onto the wrist area.  The gel is safely kept inside an injection tube, which has written measurements in order for the patient to administer the right amount of testosterone.

2- Injections

As instructed by your doctor, testosterone is injected onto the buttocks area so that it is directly absorbed into the blood stream.  Your doctor will provide you with syringes, disposable syringe needles, and a sharps container (for safe disposal of needles).

To accompany the testosterone, there are usually two other medications that are called “ancillary medications”.  These are:

Anastrozole (Arimidex):

Used for its estrogen reducing properties

HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin)

A testosterone stimulating hormone.
